Homebound

Homebound

They call you bad names
 – South Africa.

Yet the sun sings for you
It smiles at your innocent lies
Like the small children in the street
after they avoid defeat.

You smell like no other I have known
a mixture of cultures and flora
that no one else can own.

South Africa,  your taste is unique
from the cold fish in the windy cape
up to the warm lazy milk tart of the farmlands
that seem to know the sizzling meat of the natal

They call you bad names
 – South Africa,

We call you ours.

Light from Lita
See you soon.
