Bereaved

Bereaved

They say it gets better with time
That the gaping hole that you left behind
will some how find itself filled with time.
When your coffin occupied the ground
and your soul left my heart,
I began looking around
then started falling apart
and all the words heard and said
all went past my head.

I wish you could be here now;
it’s not getting better at all
I still see your favorite coffee
and your running shoes in the corner,
Screw them and their stages of grief,
Everything is still falling apart,
you’re gone and it hurts

for my father

Light from Lita
See you soon

I have experienced many losses in my life and each time I am still stunned that the world does not stop turning, that others can go along with their every day lives. Grief is a funny beast that can sneak up on us unaware and shock us with its intensity long after the loss. Thank you for saying “f-you” to the platitudes about grief– time can ease, but I belief that bereavement is something we will always carry with us.

I completely understand where you are coming from. It’s like you’re looking around in disbelief at how nobody seems to be affected by the passing. Everyone continues with the rat race like something hasn’t happened; avoiding the passing itself. Even after decades have passed, it still does hit you like you’ve said, and still hurts as if it is fresh. I guess it’s the universe’s way to remind you of that particular person’s exsitence. Yes the stages of grief are just nonsense, another way we’ve tried to deal with things – rather unsuccessful for the majority of us.

Thank you so much for stopping by, it’s very much the word appreciated.
